The Position
ICRAF Viet Nam country office is seeking for the dynamic motivated Market and Value Chain Specialist cum Project Manager to fill the vacant at country office based in Hanoi. This position is created to manage the BftW funded project "Agroecology for resilient landscapes to overcome poverty of ethnic minorities in Northern uplands" (2021 to 2025) and to lead the market and value chain research and business development of the same project. The post-holder will also support with market and value chain research and business development in various projects under CIFOR-ICRAF Viet Nam, including the newly funded "People, Primates, Plants: Co-managing Biodiversity and Improving Livelihoods in Vietnam" (2022 to 2025).
The position is also required to establish and maintain close collaboration with Vietnamese government partners, most importantly departments and research institutes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), their line agencies at provincial and lower levels, and private sector entities.
Under supervision of country coordinator, the Market and Value Chain Specialist is expected to perform the following tasks and responsibilities:
Main Responsibilities
1. Project manager: Agroecology for resilient landscapes to overcome poverty of ethnic minorities in Northern uplands (funded by Bread for The World)
• Provide overall project management, ensuring effective implementation of project activities, preparation of annual work and financial plans, communication, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and reporting;
• Effectively coordinate all partners in the delivery of project activities, ensuring that partners adhere to quality standards in the course of project implementation.
• Ensure efficiency in the utilization of project resources and effective delivery of outputs;
• Lead the implementation of Activity 2 (Study with special focus on the role of women on market opportunities, potentials, value chain for key native products like taro, medicinal plants), and Activity 8 (Facilitate farmers organizational capacities, structures, business planning, value chain development for at least 2 key products per district), including development of training and extension materials and training sessions in collaboration with local extension and other relevant partners, and pepper private sectors;
• Manage national staff under supervision and provide guidance for staff development
• Prepare annual reports and other high-level communication materials required by BftW and CIFOR-ICRAF;
• Liaise with BftW, CISDOMA on matters pertaining to the project.
2. Market and value chain specialist: People, Primates, Plants: Co-managing Biodiversity and Improving Livelihoods in Vietnam (funded by Darwin Initiative through BGCI):
• Lead the survey on market opportunities and value chains, with a special focus on gender roles and equality, of at least 4 key agroforestry products
• Lead the gender disaggregated training needs-assessment and development of training materials and training program for training of trainers (TOT) on market and small-scale farm business development
• Provide TOT training for community representatives and local officials on market, small-scale farm businesses.
• Provide backstopping and follow-up to local community and partners in market, small-scale farm business development
• Contribute to other activities of the project where relevant .
3. Partnership, outreach, and program development
• Author peer-reviewed publication and ensure quality research outputs including scientific publications, policy briefs, project-related documents and extension materials;
• Pro-actively engage national partners, e.g. MARD, private sector companies and research institutes
• Build and maintain partnerships with partners and donors
• Promote CIFOR-ICRAF work through conference presentations, blogs, organizing and attending workshops
• Lead or contribute to development of concept notes and proposals
• Serve as a member of management team at CIFOR-ICRAF Viet Nam office and contribute to the country program development and management where relevant
• Perform other tasks as deemed necessary

Qualifications and Skills Required
Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications:
• PhD degree in agricultural economics, agrobusiness and/or related fields
• Proven publication records.
Minimum Work Experience:
• At least 7 years of relevant experience, preferably related to agricultural economics, agrobusiness
• Experience in working with not-for-profit organizations and government institutions.
• Experience in project management.

• Comfortable with public speaking and workshop facilitation
• Willing to spend time in the field
• Multi-tasking person and able to work under pressure
• Open to receiving feedbacks from others
Terms of offer
• Initial one-year contract with a competitive salary, to be renewed upon performance and budget availability.
• The contract is subject to 3 (three) months probation period, assessment of performance
• Start of working as soon as possible. Immediate availability to join ICRAF team is a merit.
