The Position
ICRAF Viet Nam country office is seeking for the dynamic motivated Agroforestry System Specialist cum Project Manager to fill the vacant at country office based in Hanoi. This is a new position which is created to lead the new project funded by Darwin Initiative entitled "People, Primates, Plants: Co-managing Biodiversity and Improving Livelihoods in Vietnam" (2022 to 2025). The post-holder will also support with agroforestry research and development in various projects under CIFOR-ICRAF Viet Nam.
The position is also required to establish and maintain close collaboration with Vietnamese government partners, most importantly departments and research institutes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and their line agencies at provincial and lower levels.
Under supervision of country coordinator, the Agroforestry System Specialist is expected to perform the following tasks and responsibilities:
Main Responsibilities
1. Project manager: People, Primates, Plants: Co-managing Biodiversity and Improving Livelihoods in Vietnam (funded by Darwin Initiative through BGCI)
• Provide overall
project management, ensuring effective implementation of project activities, preparation of annual work and financial plans, communication, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and reporting;
• Effectively coordinate all partners in the delivery of project activities, ensuring that partners adhere to quality standards in the course of project implementation.
• Provide proactive support in on-farm agroforestry pilots through working with local partners and communities
• Ensure efficiency in the utilization of project resources and effective delivery of outputs;
• Provide scientific/
technical support to project team, including ICRAF and local partner staff;
• Manage national staff under supervision and provide guidance for staff development
• Prepare annual reports and other high-level communication materials required by BGCI/DI and CIFOR-ICRAF;
• Liaise with BGCI, CEGORN on matters pertaining to the project
2. AF system specialist: Agroecology for resilient landscapes to overcome poverty of ethnic minorities in Northern uplands (funded by Bread for The World)
• Support and monitor the process of pest & disease survey and ecological treatment pilot (Activity 1)
• Provide proactive support in on-farm agroecological demonstration (Activity 6) through working with local partners, including extension staff and relevant local government officials and enhance their capacity on various aspects of agroecological research and development;
• Support and monitor the process of restoration and conservation of taro in Tram Tau and medinal plants in Kim Boi (Activity 7)
• Lead relevant trainings for TOT groups and pilot farmers (Activity 9).
• Contribute to other activities of the project where relevant.
3. Partnership, outreach, and program development
• Author peer-reviewed publication and ensure quality research outputs including scientific publications, policy briefs, project-related documents and extension materials;
• Pro-actively engage national partners, e.g. MARD, private sector companies and research institutes
• Build and maintain partnerships with partners and donors
• Promote CIFOR-ICRAF work through conference presentations, blogs, organizing and attending workshops
• Lead or contribute to development of concept notes and proposals
• Serve as a member of management team at CIFOR-ICRAF Viet Nam office and contribute to the country program development and management where relevant
• Perform other tasks as deemed necessary

Qualifications and Skills Required
Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications:
• PhD degree in AF integrated system, agronomy, crop science, soil science and/or related field
• Proven publication records.
Minimum Work Experience:
• At least 10 years of relevant experience, preferably related to agroforestry system, climate change, crop science, soil science, agriculture, sustainable NRM and/or rural development
• Experience in working with not-for-profit organizations and government institutions.
• Experience in project management.
Skills and Competencies

• Independent, rigorous, excellent social skills, and passionate and motivated by the social and environmental impact potential of their work
• Comfortable with public speaking and workshop facilitation
• Willing to spend time in the field
• Multi-tasking person and able to work under pressure
• Open to receiving feedbacks from others
Terms of offer
• Initial one-year contract with a
competitive salary, to be renewed upon performance and budget availability.
• The contract is subject to 3 (three) months probation period, assessment of performance
• Start of working as soon as possible. Immediate availability to join ICRAF team is a merit.
